Applicable Models
Aprilia Tuono V4, RS660, Tuono 660, Tuareg 660 (from MY2021 onwards), and other vehicles equipped with Marelli Euro 5 / Euro 5+ ECUs.
Purpose
This procedure resolves the activation of the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) and clears the P1309 error code, which is related to a flywheel synchronization issue or false misfire detection.

Procedure Steps
- Engine Warm-Up
- Begin the procedure with the engine cold and allow it to warm up to at least 80°C (176°F).
- Starting from a cold engine has been shown to increase the success rate.
- Bike Setup
- Ensure the bike is in neutral (N).
- Position the bike upright on a rear paddock stand, with the side stand up.
- “RPM Bomb” Sequence
- Perform 3 controlled throttle sweeps from idle to:
- 10,000 RPM for V4 models
- 8,000 RPM for parallel twin models (660)
- Each rev should take approximately 2–3 seconds, with a brief hold at peak RPM before fully releasing the throttle.
- Allow the bike to idle for a few seconds between each sweep.
- Full sequence pattern:
Idle > Rev > Idle > Rev > Idle > Rev > Idle - If done correctly, the MIL should turn off after the third rev cycle.
- Perform 3 controlled throttle sweeps from idle to:
- If Unsuccessful
- Repeat the entire 3-rev sequence once more.
- Common reasons for failure include:
- Inconsistent or abrupt throttle control
- Not holding target RPM long enough
- Poor idle behavior or unstable engine
- Bike movement during the procedure
- If Still Unsuccessful
- Stop the procedure once the radiator fans turn on (indicating the engine is hot).
- Turn off the engine, allow it to cool down completely, and retry later from cold.
